Friday's outing of longtime CIA and MI6 asset Stefan Halper as an FBI asset sent to infiltrate the Trump campaign has social media abuzz today. Reactions have ranged from celebration to outrage, with little inbetween.

To recap, after two weeks of hunting for a "mole" in the Trump campaign, the New York Times and Washington Post both printed incredibly detailed descriptions of Halper - withholding all but his name, solidly corroborating a March report by the Daily Caller's Chuck Ross about Halper's meetings with the Trump aides. Neither publication give Ross credit, of course.

Somehow several anti-Trump intellectuals got their wires crossed, conflating President Trump and Senate Intel Committee Chair Devin Nunes' calls for transparency by the DOJ, with the actual media outlets that exposed Halper.

Senior Brookings Institute fellow, and James Comey's close friend, Benjamin Wittes is beside himself - angrily tweeting: "I have a whole lot to say about how the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and the President of the United States teamed up to out an intelligence source...," adding in a subsequent tweet "But I am too angry to write right now—and Twitter is probably not the right forum. So I'll leave it at this for now: Important people defiled their oaths of office for these stories to appear."

I have a whole lot to say about how the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and the President of the United States teamed up to out an intelligence source who aided our country in a properly predicated counterintelligence investigation against a hostile foreign power.

Others have noted that Halper, a longtime asset of MI6 and US Intelligence - is a rabid Trump hater who openly supported Hillary Clinton during the 2016 US election.

"I believe [Hillary] Clinton would be best for US-UK relations and for relations with the European Union," Clinton is well-known, deeply experienced and predictable. US-UK relations will remain steady regardless of the winner although Clinton will be less disruptive over time," Halper, who served as deputy assistant secretary of state for political-military affairs and senior adviser to the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice, said.

Is the Trump FBI inquiry of Watergate proportions? Stefan Halper, a White House official under Nixon, says it's "moving in that direction".

Yet others noted that the FBI's Russia "investigation" into Trump didn't seem to extend to Hillary Clinton. We would remind readers that her campaign chair, John Podesta, sat on the board of Massachusetts energy company Joule Unlimited, along with senior Russian official Anatoly Chubais and Russian oligarch Ruben Vardanyan – who was appointed by Vladimir Putin to the Russian economic council.

Two months after Podesta joined the board, Joule managed to raise $35 million from Putin's Kremlin-backed investment fund Rusnano. Not only did John Podesta fail to properly disclose this relationship before joining the Clinton Campaign, he transferred 75,000 shares of Joule to his daughter through a shell company using her address.

We're sure the FBI was all over that...

FBI, lacking evidence needed to open a criminal investigation of the Trump camp, decided to open a CI investigation. With the blessing of the Obama WH, they took the powers that enable our govt to spy on foreign adversaries & used them to spy on Americans. https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/05/crossfire-hurricane-new-york-times-report-buries-lede/

Nick Short ??

@PoliticalShort
FBI opened a CI investigation in the absence of any (a) incriminating evidence, or (b) evidence implicating the Trump camp in Russian espionage. The FBI collaborated w/ CIA to probe an American political camp using foreign-intel surveillance & informants. Bigger than Watergate...

Stefan Halper, the spy placed into the Trump campaign to entrap and smear was also an MI-6 asset.

Questions for @Comey:

What's his relationship with Christopher Steele?

Was he paid by Fusion GPS?

Was he paid by FBI part and parcel to the deal they cut with Steele?

Last night all the guys at my regular bar in Midtown—not by any means a lunch-bucket institution, if you will—were saying the FBI thing has gone too far and enough with elite institutions trying to undo the result of a democratic election.

This is in Midtown Manhattan[!!!].

Stefan Halper worked with 3 Republican Administrations, teaches International Affairs, and his father in law was a top CIA official.

If the Russians, Chinese, Albanians, Latvians, Sinn Fein, and the Pansexual Peace Party's intelligence services haven't fingered this guy for a US Intel operator decades ago, they're retarded.

No collusion!!!!! Numerous people in my immediate family and in my campaign made many efforts to communicate with people in the Russian government about getting dirt on the Clinton campaign. A few of them are under indictment, and others lied to my administration and the fbi about it. My family members are not indicted, though, because Mueller knows I would go ballistic if they were. These people I hired and sired were successful at times, and have changed their stories so many times I cannot keep up myself, lol. No collusion, though. Witch hunt. Russians hacked the Clinton campaign and the DNC, and leaked tons of shit to Wikileaks, a great great organization by the way. Russians also hacked voter rolls in many states. I told Russia publicly on TV, that they would be greatly rewarded if they could get Clinton's emails. No collusion!!!!!! Russia spread fake news using their many years of experience manipulating dummies through fake news. Lots of people forwarded this obvious fake news about Clinton, because they are useful idiots. It was brilliant. The best part, No collusion!!!, is I just claim that Clinton was the real collusion, and Clinton was the real watergate, the real news is the fake news, and blah blah, and the idiots eat it right up even though it is chopped dog food type bullshit. Witch hunt!!!!!!

The whole thing would be super funny if it weren't so real and so sad.

Alongside ‘retired’ British intelligence agent Christopher Steele, FBI agents used Halper, a portly Pentagon consultant and academic, as a paid informer to cement the Crossfire Hurricane case against Trump and his advisers during the dramatic last days of the 2016 election and the rocky commencement of Trump's first term in office.

Stefan Halper, 80, is an American who served in various U.S. government roles, holding official positions in the Nixon, Ford, and Reagan administrations. More recently, he spent decades living in the UK, teaching at Cambridge University, and collaborating with British intelligence. Unsurprisingly, Halper is a textbook “deep stater.” His long-term bureaucratic career across various presidential administrations was consistently embedded at the nexus of intelligence, policy, and national security, particularly tied to sensitive intelligence matters and political maneuvering.

“The newly-disclosed memos,” the article explained, “confirm Halper was the source of one of the most sensational bogus claims to land in the FBI's probe in summer 2016: that General Mike Flynn had left a 2014 foreign meeting alone with Russia scholar Svetlana Lokhova when he was a three-star general leading the Defense Intelligence Agency.” The memo also says Halper’s report was “not plausible” and “not accurate,” but they kept paying Halper and using his intel anyway.

The article reported that, in spite of the bad Halper information, special agent Peter Strzok stopped the FBI from closing its investigation into Flynn in early 2017.

In one of the more remarkable passages, the FBI’s “source evaluation unit” (VMU) admitted that nobody could confirm Halper’s wild stories about President Trump. “VMU notes there is no corroboration concerning MITCH’s reporting. Due to the singular nature of his or her access, VMU was unable to locate corroboration concerning MITCH’s reporting.” Mitch was Halper’s FBI informant code name.

Halper’s uncorroborated intel was “integral” to the Crossfire investigation. The FBI memo reported, “CHS (MITCH) was integral in an operation against the subject of a sensitive investigation.”

Snitching fake but useful stories wrapped in the glory of past government service is, apparently, a very lucrative side gig. Indeed, the FBI has paid Halper $1.2 million dollars of our money since 1991. The new records show Halper received an astonishing $70,000 from the FBI between August 2016 and the start of February 2017.

Not only that. In 2020, an investigation by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) showed Halper got another million in sweet taxpayer bucks as a contractor for the “Office of Net Assessment” between 2012 and 2018. The Washington Examiner reported at the time that the ONA was “unable to provide sufficient documentation of whether Halper was doing the research work he’d been hired to do.”

Halper’s fattened himself off the federal feed trough. All that largesse from informant fees and sketchy ‘research contracts’ squats on top of Halper’s generous retirement pension from his federal government service and whatever Cambridge might still be paying him in royalties or retirement. Not to mention the opaque British Intelligence agencies. The US government is a financial bonanza for the bloated octogenarian storyteller. He’s in the club.

Halper should write a book called “Deep State Grifter: How to Get Rich Off Your Government Service.”

Somebody must figure out how to scrape off all these deep-state barnacles. They have a lucrative scam going, and nobody is invited except for club members.

They say pigs get fed but hogs get slaughtered. Well, Halper? You’ve been pretty hoggish.
