The Drake fraud still exists and still has subscribers who beg for new con men to reassure them (lucky long lost inheritors by blood) that 'court proceedings' that will release the fortune to them are pending and just need ongoing contributions (like, forever and forever with no ostensible result). Con men step up because every fantasy needs a leader to send out the newsletters and keep the hopium mythology alive. The 'leaders' are usually jailed eventually, but the subscribers always demand a replacement and there is always a sociopath who will step up. It's been going on for generations.
