#memorialday2025 Right by my workstation, you will find a framed exhibit lovingly created for me by Elena. In the background is a photo of the granite wall that carries the names of over 58,000 American men and women killed in the Vietnam War.
In the foreground, you will find in bold print the names of four of my high school friends who died fighting in Vietnam. By their names, you will find their date of birth and the date they were killed in Vietnam. Here are the names of these four young men and the details as follows:

Donald R. Irby 09/04/1949 03/09/1968
Larry Joe White 02/02/1949 06/10/1969
Ronald S. Athanasiou 01/21/1949 01/21/1970
Michael Vincent Wright 12/19/1947 02/26/1968

A few of you have been to our house. You have seen the Purple Heart certificate I earned in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. A few of you know the story of how I got wounded. If a piece of shrapnel had hit two inches lower, my jugular vein would have been severed. I would have bled to death. There would have been one more name on that granite wall. I was and still am a very lucky man.
Please take a moment to reflect on what I have said.

They are no longer private. There hasn't been a war since the Spanish American war that was worth fighting. People dying sucks, but they shouldn't have. You only could argue Japan, but Hawaii was a territory with a naval base in WWII. They were of no threat to the mainland.

Let Europe handle its own crap. We crossed two oceans at the same time to fight wars that were unnessary. Japan was the only "kind of" threat to a territory. WWII I wouldn't have cared about the Jews. I promise you they wouldn't have cared about you.

Memorial Day. A day to thank people that fought in senseless wars and had nothing to do with our freedom. And I'm not a leftie. I just think when we use our military it should be for our freedoms. None have been in over a century. All we got hit with is a massive price tag to defend the rest of the useless world.

Amen.

I go to the skeet range with some veterans of 'Nam. Besides getting out alive, I don't know what if any satisfaction they have for "preserving democracy."

I also agree. I have a few ideas about that in my platform:

Eliminate the US Army and instead require mandatory training and arming all sane non-felon adult male US citizens to defend US territory ONLY, organized into local autonomous militias, one per zip code.
Obligate all US militias to fight against any entity violating the letter or spirit of the Constitution, especially violations of free speech or the right to bear arms.
Close all US military bases in foreign countries.
Create a Constitutional amendment which prohibits sending US soldiers off of US soil, except as a counterattack for a military attack on US soil.
Create a Constitutional amendment prohibiting interventionism; American soldiers must never fight except against invasion of America, per George Washington's advice.
Eliminate NATO, because Europe is not America.

It’s a nice thought, but nefarious actors would take control of the world and squeeze and choke the USA, stopping shipments of valuable things we cannot produce until we fail.

That is something he said in 2019 reflecting on an event in 2017. That last line "We made the Ultimate Sacrifice" was not part of what he said.

If you are posting this on social media, then your thoughts are not private.

That was from his book, iirc. And the sacrifice part was there. Not sure about the "ultimate" part though.

But the whole comparison of dying for your country vs doing less business as somehow being in the same zipcode is a clown move.

What are the valuable things we cannot produce?

The US warhawks chose to fight those wars. It's not that they were forced by their "allies". Blame is on American politicians.

Cheap whores, cheap vodka and brown bears.

BTW, the ideology of producing everything inside one's country and not trading with anyone is called Juche. Are we into this now? I must be behind on true conservative trends.
