Hello, I am Kade Byrand, an illustrator and designer, with a deep love for the film form and its production.
Artist Nick Jainschigg once said while looking over my portfolio, “No one has ever made a piece of art like this”. The piece in question was an illustration of a panicked news room, the staff trying to frantically edit together some breaking story. It was only with closer inspection that it became clear the breaking story was the events of the movie Godzilla. “No one has ever made a piece of fanart, which doesn’t include any of the movie’s elements”.
This interaction strikes the core of why I create, because behind any event, real or fake, is a series of stories, layered inside of each other like Russian nesting dolls, and all so often the focus is on the obvious, not the more interesting and subtle ramifications. While deconstructionism dominates the media, my heart lies in reconstruction. Exploring art and its ramifications, while still embracing what the project truly is. With nearly every project I have been brought on to, my contributions have been praised, not just for executing the work to a high standard, but for presenting this in a new light, and exploring ideas that might have been missed without my dedication.
My ability to explore these different paths, and find new and better ways of conveying information lead to my improving readership whilst I was illustrating for On Deck Journal, and earning a quick promotion into an Art Direction role at the parent company of On Deck. It is also why I am easy to adapt to different illustration roles across various fields, from editorial to production, and be able to bring my best game to each of them as I am always able to find a way to tie my work with my own passions.
It also ensures that I have a broad knowledge base and am both a strong team member and leader, loving nothing more than helping others take their ideas to the next level. I am always looking for unique stories to tell and new directions to explore, but more than anything I hope to contribute to the world of TV and Movies, as it is due to them that my passions developed.
