FBI: Chinese Ministry of State Security Hacker Xu Zewei Arrested by FBI Houston Division at Italian Airport

Xu Zewei, who served the Chinese Ministry of State Security (MSS) in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, launched cyberattacks against doctors and scientists in the United States who were engaged in vaccine research. He is one of the first MSS hackers to be successfully apprehended by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This arrest, led by the FBI’s Houston Division, marks a major breakthrough in a complex, five-year-long international cyber investigation spanning multiple countries.

The Chinese government has shown no shame and no regard for international legal norms in its relentless efforts to steal U.S. technology and sensitive information.

Their only regret is that their illegal activities have now been exposed to the world.

The FBI Houston Division issues a stern warning to the Chinese Ministry of State Security:

Your crimes can no longer be hidden. The international community now sees your true nature: you are a government that disregards rules, laws, and morality, and will stop at nothing to steal American resources. If you persist in launching malicious cyberattacks, you will face serious consequences.
