#chinesespaceprogram Yesterday I spent a lot of time researching the Chinese space program. The results were surprising. The program has had some great accomplishments, including orbiting a manned space station, probes on the moon, and probes on Mars. They also have had an atrocious safety record with serious fatality events up to 500 Chinese citizens and major property damage in both China and other countries. A lot of attention is paid to the possibility of Chinese taikonauts landing on the moon before the US can send human astronauts back to the moon. Here is an excellent report on the Chinese moon landing program to land humans on the moon in 2029:

What is overlooked is the brilliant work the Chinese space program has done with extensive rover exploration of "the dark side of the moon" and the lunar South Pole. Here is an excellent link:

China is establishing a plan to build bases and permanent manned settlements on the moon. If we are not careful, they will claim the best parts of the moon for themselves.
We need to take this plan seriously and work hard to reestablish a Western presence on the moon.
